Honeycomb Pro: Now With Metrics & SLOs

Metrics and SLOs have come to Honeycomb Pro

4 Min. Read

Honeycomb Pro is about to get even better. Starting today, all Pro accounts have access to Honeycomb Metrics and two Service Level Objectives (SLOs), previously only available to Enterprise accounts.
Full disclosure: Later this month, the price of Pro plans will be increasing as well (see below). However, existing Pro customers (including those that sign up before the new pricing goes into effect) will be able to enjoy the new capabilities at existing prices for a full year, until April 2023!

What’s New In Pro?

Honeycomb Metrics

Honeycomb Metrics brings essential system metrics alongside application observability data to provide a comprehensive view of your application and all of its underlying dependencies for faster debugging and incident resolution.

Send your metrics data to Honeycomb via OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or AWS Cloudwatch and query it just like any other dataset. Metrics are well suited to giving a picture of the general health of a host or resource. Honeycomb can consume and display metrics in addition to tracing and telemetry data.

Honeycomb SLOs make it possible to trigger alerts on issues that matter most to the business and quickly debug them. They also help you answer important questions like: “How much monthly downtime is tolerable? What performance impact is acceptable before users are negatively impacted? Should we focus on new features or tech debt?”

Define, measure, validate, and adjust engineering priorities collaboratively across your org with SLOs. SLO error budgets give teams the leeway they need to prioritize or de-prioritize production issues. Our Pro Plans now include two SLOs, and our Enterprise Plan includes 100 SLOs.

Pricing Changes

We have a lot of exciting content to share to get you acquainted with Honeycomb Metrics and SLOs, but first, I have to address the elephant in the room: the price of Pro plans will be increasing. This change will go into effect on Tuesday, April 26, with Pro plans starting at $130/month.

That’s not far away, but don’t fret! Existing Pro customers will receive the updated capabilities, but will keep their existing pricing for an additional year, until April 2023. What’s more, this applies to all accounts created before the 26th, so if you’re on a free account and have been thinking about an upgrade, there’s never been a better time. Get the new features today, locked in at the old pricing for a year.

Learn how to use Metrics and SLOs

Are you intrigued by the possibilities of Metrics and SLOs, but unsure where to start? We’ve got you covered! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be hosting a few events to showcase what these capabilities can do for your organization.

How Heroku Uses Metrics Within Honeycomb

Sarah Sherbondy and Jeremy Morrell of Heroku join Honeycomb for a conversation on how their team is taking advantage of Honeycomb Metrics.

Heroku engineers are searching, visualizing, and comparing raw metrics data alongside observability insights, all in one place. Some key topics covered include:

  • How Heroku instruments metrics about their OTel agents alongside wide events for analysis in Honeycomb
  • Strategies for monitoring the intersection of high-cardinality user/host IDs and aggregate infrastructure data
  • How Metrics serves as a bridge to help teams across Heroku adopt and find more success in Honeycomb

Fireside Chat: Incident Response Using Triggered SLOs

Tuesday, April 19 at 10 a.m. PT | 1 p.m. ET

Please join us for a fireside chat with Honeycomb’s CTO Charity Majors, Solutions Architect Director Pierre Tessier, and SRE Fred Hebert, where Fred will show how he used a service-level objective (SLO) to understand and fix a recent incident. We’ll discuss the value of being alerted on the right SLOs and how we were able to take action quickly.

Listen in to learn how you can:

  • Set up for success by adding the right context to data through wide events
  • Pair those events with meaningful, debuggable SLOs so you can sleep better at night
